The Royal Fleur de Lis

Enchanted Bayou offers a wide selection of Fleur de Lis invitations. The Fleur de Lis holds special meaning for many of us, and part of that is in the beautiful, almost royal feeling it gives us. What is so special about the Fleur de Lis?

Here in New Orleans the Fleur de Lis symbol represents home. We see it everywhere: on the city flag, on the state flag, at sports events and in stores.

Besides New Orleans and Southern Louisiana, the Fleur de Lis is most often associated with France: French royalty to be more exact. The Bourbon branch of French royalty adopted it as their symbol in the 12th century.

The Fleur de Lis also represented the house of Medici in Florence and remains on that city’s coat of arms today.

But the Fleur de Lis has been around a lot longer than that.  The first known use of the Fleur de Lis symbol goes back to the 3rd millennium B.C., when Assyrians used it to decorate their bas-relief sculptures. It seems that for this ancient people, the Fleur de Lis was also associated with royalty.

As a royal symbol, the Fleur de Lis represents perfection, light and life.

With its long history and beautiful symbolism, the Fleur de Lis is a perfect design choice for your event, shower or wedding invitation.
